What to expect
A medical abortion is a non-surgical way to end a pregnancy using medication.

You don’t need to wait because you're "too early"
The pill can be given as early as just a few days after a missed period, up to 12 weeks. It will be given the same day as your first appointment.
You always have a choice

Some things to know before taking the abortion pill:
• This option is about 97% effective if taken before 8 weeks (56 days), but its effectiveness drops to around 95% after that point.
• Compared to surgical abortion, it has a significantly higher chance of complications and failure.
• Most patients will need to take at least one day off from work (the doctor will give you a work note).
• A medical abortion requires a follow-up appointment two weeks later to confirm a negative pregnancy test.
• About 7 in 1,000 patients may need a blood transfusion as a result of complications.
• While the pill often has a lower upfront cost than surgical abortion, it can become more expensive if complications arise.
• For these reasons, it is best if you are within 30 minutes of a hospital or the doctor’s office if you decide to take the pill.

Private counseling and ultrasound
About 2 hours
During your visit, you will meet one-on-one with your doctor, who will perform an ultrasound, answer your questions, and discuss your options and future birth control.
You will take the abortion pill in the office. You will take another medicine 24 hours later, which will cause bleeding to start. Very heavy bleeding lasts for about two hours. It can be very uncomfortable. We will give you a prescription for pain medicine.

We understand that the rising cost of medical care is a real concern. We are committed to keeping abortion both safe and affordable. That is why we offer one of the lowest prices in Phoenix. The cost for a medical (Mifepristone, RU-486) abortion is $649 for pregnancies up to twelve weeks. The two-week mandatory follow-up visit is included. There are no additional costs except for medications you might purchase at the pharmacy or in the event of a failure, in which case we will perform the procedure at a 50% discount. We will never add unnecessary charges. We accept all major credit cards, Zelle, Venmo, and PayPal to make payment as easy as possible.
We will perform an ultrasound to determine exactly how far along you are. The pill can be taken as early as a few days after your missed period and on your first visit.
While abortion is currently legal in Arizona up to 24 weeks, the abortion pill is only FDA-approved through 70 days (10 weeks). Pills are generally given up to 12 weeks. Although some clinics may provide it later, we do not feel it is safe to give the abortion pill after 12 weeks.
Yes! We are a private OB/GYN office, not a clinic. The doctor can perform Pap smear and STD testing at no additional charge during an abortion procedure. A Pap smear must be done with a GYN exam, so if you are taking the abortion pill, a Pap smear would require a separate office visit (which we can arrange for you). If you have insurance, most labs are completely covered.
No need to wait. We can usually see you the same day. Call, text, or email us right now to schedule today without delay.

Medical Abortion Pill
What is the Medical Abortion Pill?
A medical abortion is a non-surgical way to end a pregnancy using medication. It works by causing a miscarriage and is usually offered in the early weeks of pregnancy.
This option is about 97% effective if taken before 8 weeks (56 days), but its effectiveness drops after that point.
Compared to surgical abortion, it has a significantly higher chance of complications and failure. About 7 in 1,000 patients may need a blood transfusion as a result of complications.
A medical abortion requires three visits, including a follow-up appointment two weeks later. Most patients will need to take at least one day off work.
While the pill often has a lower upfront cost than surgical abortion, it can become more expensive if complications arise.
Medical abortion is a safe and effective alternative to surgical abortion. In fact, about 63% of all abortions in the U.S. last year were medical abortions and 70% in Arizona.
Medical abortion is very safe — its risk of death is 14 times lower than that of childbirth, and serious complications requiring hospitalization or blood transfusion occur in less than 1% of cases.
The most common method uses two medications: mifepristone and misoprostol. Together, they are about 97% effective during the first 56 days (8 weeks) of pregnancy. Mifepristone is taken by mouth and works by blocking progesterone, a hormone needed for pregnancy to continue. This softens and opens the cervix and causes the uterus to contract.
Common side effects include abdominal cramping, fatigue, and vaginal bleeding. Rare but serious risks include heavy bleeding, infection, or birth defects if the pregnancy does not end. For this reason, follow-up care is important.
Mifepristone has been safely used worldwide since the 1980s.
